Pete’s Picks: A Guide To Week One’s NFL Games

Reading Time: 6 minutes

Pete’s Picks is a new weekly segment on The All Around where I (Pete) will break down my predictions for each NFL game of the weekend and give you players to watch for. FOOTBALL’S HERE (Sorry baseball).

Falcons @ Eagles – Falcons

Football’s back, that Thursday night we all wait for so desperately all offseason. This year, we’re given a great divisional rematch between our defending champs, and a consistent NFC elite. The battle of the birds. Although I think Philly will stay great all season, I think The Falcons will be right up there with them. Foles starts, plays well but not up to Wentz potential week one. I take the revenge seeking Falcons in our NFL kickoff by a small margin

Bills @ Ravens – Ravens

No more Tyrod in Buffalo, no playoffs anytime soon. The Ravens gained a great addition on offense in Michael Crabtree, and look to see Alex Collins have a big day. This will be Lamar Jackson’s team, but possibly later than sooner as Flacco will have no problem with the Bills this Sunday.

Jaguars @ Giants – Giants

Many may disagree with this pick, as the Jags elite D didn’t lose a beat this offseason. This being said, the Giants offense is healthy and stacked, and Jacksonville’s receiver core is looking bleak. Barkley has a huge breakout game as teams won’t know what to expect with the Giant’s dual threat through the air and on the ground. Watch out for the OBJ-Ramsey match up as well, may be the best game of the weekend.

Buccaneers @ Saints – Saints

The home field advantage at the superdome is undeniable, it will be a LOUD sunday from Nola as many of the players and all the fans feel super bowl 52 was stolen from them in nothing short of a miracle (literally, ask Stefon Diggs). Brees has a massive day, as does Kamara with the Ingram suspension giving Alvin all the reps in the world. Buc’s first rounder Vita Vea is still out with a calf injury, and although Gerald McCoy’s still got it, he can’t play for 11 guys. Bucs defense won’t cut it against the high firing Saints O, and The Saints D should have a field day on Fitzpatrick as Famous Jameis is facing suspension.

Patriots @ Texans – Texans

I know what most of you may be thinking — “what?” and I have extreme bias against the Pats, always hated them always will, but this pick is not an attribute to that. The Texans will have an incredible season of Watson stays healthy, mark my words. Their defense is outstanding and healthier than they’ve been in a while, not to mention the addition of THE headhunting honey badger himself. Their offensive weapons are outstanding with the likes of Hopkins, Fuller, and Lamar Miller who I think is incredibly consistent and very underrated. Watson has a huge day, Texans take down the defending super bowl losers week one.

49ers @ Vikings – Vikings

In my opinion, we are giving both these team’s quarterbacks more credit than is due. I need more visual on Garoppolo, but I’m excited to see what he can do with his own team for a full season (finally). As for Cousins on the other hand, with the check that he got, all I can say is, we’ll see… Is this a statement season for both of them? Absolutely. The addition of Sherman is huge for the 9ers is huge but won’t be enough against a young, strong vikings offense. The Vikes defense has a big day as well.

Titans @ Dolphins – Titans

To start the year, Dolphins are my 32nd ranked team in the league. Plain and simple, until they prove me otherwise, they sit at the bottom. Titans win, Derrick Henry has a big day without Demarco Murray in the picture anymore. No Jarvis in Miami, look for new Titan all star and the reason Brady got his 4th ring; Malcolm Butler to have a great day.

Bengals @ Colts – Colts

This one is tough, very tough, but I give the edge to Indy only because it’s at Lucas Oil for Luck’s first real homecoming. AJ Green owns the field as always, and John Ross and Mixon put up good stats too. T.Y. Hilton and Andrew Luck have a huge day though, and Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron both the ball multiple times as well. Advantage Colts.

Steelers @ Browns – Browns

Although the Steelers are still the Steelers, and AB has a big day as he does everytime he touches the field, the off field issues between the locker room and Le’veon show on sunday. The Cleveland crowd will be louder than they’ve been in years, and all the momentum in the world on their side after all their offseason moves and America’s following of Hard Knocks. I’m taking the Browns to win by a small margin. Jarvis, Njoku, have themselves a DAY. (Maybe a little Flash Gordon too).

Chiefs @ Chargers – Chargers

It seems like Philip Rivers finally has all the pieces to make another deep playoff run, which I thought may never happen again after the Peyton Manning-Denver era. The defense is my favorite in the league, right there with the Vikings and Texans, and I truly believe they’ll make a deep playoff run if not super bowl. Offense is all their, defense is all there. Mahomes has a very shaky first couple of games, playing the Chargers, 9ers, Jags, Steelers, Broncos, and Pats, all in the first 5 weeks. Chiefs will find a rhythm, but not week one. Chargers own this game.

Seahawks @ Broncos – Broncos

I’m a Denver boy, easy money.

Cowboys @ Panthers – Panthers

Battle of what could be two great offenses, McCaffrey has a huge day as does Zeke, but Cowboys can’t catch up to Cam’s week one at-home-swag. The loss of Dez will hurt Dallas more than it will help. Watch for rookie receivers Michael Gallup and DJ Moore to get in the mix a good amount for both of these teams.

Redskins @ Cardinals – Redskins

Alex Smith could help the Redskins out a lot this year, he’s much more mobile than Cousins is. Look for Adrian Peterson to have a revenge game and Paul Richardson has a day as well. The Cardinals quarterback situation will be confusing and we’ll see Rosen sooner than later.

If Jordan Reed stays healthy, Skins O doesn’t look too shabby.

SUNDAY NIGHT:

Bears @ Packers – Packers

Yes the Bears snagged Mack. Yes they will be good. And yes their defense is nothing to play with, but Rodgers will not lose to the Bears in the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. Period. Pack wins, Adams and Jimmy Graham put in work.

MONDAY NIGHT:

Jets @ Lions – Lions

Darnold will be the future of the Jets, but the veteran offense and defense of the Lions will put on a show Monday night. Stafford and his receivers are just too dangerous. Slay shuts down the outside. Matt Patricia wins his first game as Lions HC.

Rams @ Raiders – Rams

Rams are my super bowl pick in the NFC, Aqib and Marcus Peters are very adept at playing against the Raiders. This team is just too good, I will be picking them for many weeks to come. Brandin Cooks will go off, and the defense shows the world they are here to take it all this season.
